Volunteer with MAC
Do you have skills to share? Whether you are a migrant or a supporter, we are always looking for volunteers. We can work around your schedule.
Skills to share? We can work around your schedule.
Whether you are a migrant or a supporter, we are always looking for volunteers. There is no single way to be part of MAC, and no single kind of person we are looking for.
When you get involved, we encourage volunteers to meet one-on-one with an organizer to discuss where you would like to contribute, and to check in at least once every two weeks to discuss updates. Beyond that, how you choose to support, when, and how often is up to you.
This is your movement.
You get to choose how you support
Some common ways people get involved with MAC:
Tabling and membership
Table for us at community events and help collect memberships to grow MAC's base.
Events and actions
Help plan and run upcoming actions, or casual community events that build solidarity.
Outreach
Talk to migrants, do postering and flyering, and help grow our reach in the community.
Writing and communications
Blog posts, newsletters, press releases, letters to government, petitions, and social media across TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and BlueSky.
Design and web
Graphic design and web design to help us tell our story and build our presence.
Fundraising and campaigns
Fundraise (we are truly broke), build campaigns, support community engagement, and help us create an online course on migrant rights.
Common questions about volunteering
Do I need to have legal status to volunteer?
MAC welcomes volunteers regardless of immigration status. We understand the risks that come with precarious status and take your safety seriously. We will never ask you to take actions that put you at risk, and we will never share your information with immigration authorities or government agencies.
What is the time commitment?
There is no minimum. We ask that you be honest about your capacity when you apply so we can connect you with opportunities that fit your schedule. Life happens, and we get it.
Do I need specific skills or experience?
No specific skills or qualifications required. Lived experience and genuine commitment to migrant justice matter more to us than credentials. Most of what you need can be learned alongside people who have been doing this work.
How do volunteers stay in touch?
MAC primarily uses Signal for volunteer coordination. It is a free, end-to-end encrypted messaging app. If you do not have it set up yet, that is okay. We will walk you through it when you join.
What happens after I apply?
Someone from our team will be in touch within a few weeks to have an informal conversation about your interests and availability. There is no formal interview.
Is my information kept confidential?
We collect only the information we need to coordinate your involvement with MAC, and we avoid collecting sensitive information where possible. We will never voluntarily share your information with immigration authorities, government agencies, or third parties. Like any organization, we may be legally compelled to disclose information in response to a court order or subpoena. If that ever happens, we will take all reasonable steps to resist such demands and will notify affected individuals where we are legally permitted to do so.
